Evion Group (ASX:EVG) has concluded community engagement activities to enable the construction of the Maniry Graphite Mine in Madagascar.
The company secured formal agreements with over 100 families supporting the development of the mine. Evion said the agreements were an integral part of its community development plan, outlining a substantial investment pipeline within the local Maniry community.
Evion noted the investment includes employment for at least 400 local people, as well as opportunities for local contractors and businesses, the construction of new schools and onsite medical facilities, and the development of water wells and essential infrastructure.
Initiatives under the plan include the provision of alternative accommodation for families choosing to relocate within the region.
Evion is preparing the final submission of the community development plan and environmental plan to Madagascar’s environmental authority to advance project approvals.
Managing Director David Round says the company expects this formal endorsement in the near term.
“These approvals will enable us to move decisively toward mine development, aligning both local aspirations and broader supply chain demands,” Round says.
Meanwhile, Evion’s in-country team has been engaging with Madagascar’s Ministry of Mines, with formal renewal of its exploration permits expected in the coming weeks.
This will enable the conversion of these permits to full exploitation licences, advancing the Maniry Project toward development. This conversion will secure exploitation licences across all project areas defined in Evion’s Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS), providing the tenure required to transition into mine development.
