Macmahon (ASX:MAH) has executed a letter of intent for the contract to reopen Wolfram’s Mount Carlton Gold Mine, 150 kilometres south of Townsville in Queensland’s Whitsunday region.
If the discussions progress to a formal contract, Macmahon could be responsible for surface and underground mining as well as civil infrastructure services for at least 33 months at the site.
The company would also be tasked with repairing and maintaining the mine access road and carrying out other early works.
Surface mining activities could restart as early as April 2026. Underground mining is expected to follow shortly after.
The total contract value is about $250 million and no extra funds are required for Macmahon’s 2026 financial year capital expenditure budget.
“We are delighted to be working closely with Wolfram Limited and Bumi Resources on the restart of the Mount Carlton Gold Mine,” Managing Director and CEO Michael Finnegan says.
Macmahon is a diversified mining, civil construction, and resources engineering contractor.
