Azure Minerals Limited (ASX: AZS) announced that more significant nickel and copper sulphide mineralisation were uncovered from the second drill hole ANDD0002 at its 60%-owned Andover Nickel-Copper Project located in the West Pilbara region of Western Australia.
The company reported that drill hole ANDD0002 intersected 14.50m of semi-massive, matrix and disseminated nickel and copper sulphide mineralisation from a depth of 104.50m.
AZS said that internal interval of 4.05m of semi-massive and matrix sulphide mineralisation correlates with the down-dip extension of the similar strongly mineralised interval intersected in ANDD0001.
The company reported that width and tenor of the mineralised intercept in ANDD0002 are consistent with the electromagnetic (EM) conductor plate, validating the geophysical modelling. AZS said that the EM conductor plate as modelled is expected to increase in strength and scale as it deepens and is interpreted as a significant down-dip mineralised extension that is currently being tested by ANDD0003.
Azure reported that the downhole electromagnetic (DHTEM) survey crew is on site and has started surveying hole ANDD0002.
Andover nickel-copper project
The Andover nickel-copper project hosts nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation discovered by Creasy Group in 2018. It is located 35km southeast of Karratha and immediately south of Roebourne.
As per Andover Tenement Sale and Exploration Joint Venture Agreement, Azure has a 60% interest in the tenement EL 47/2481 and Exploration Licence Application 47/4314 from Croydon Gold Pty Ltd, a private subsidiary of the Creasy Group. The Creasy Group retains 40%.
Creasy Group had drilled seven RC holes (1,126m) in 2018 to test four targets characterised by coincident versatile time domain electromagnetic system (VTEM) and ground electromagnetic (EM) anomalies plus surface gossans containing anomalous nickel and copper.
Exploration campaign at Andover
Azure had commenced a maiden exploration campaign at Andover. The multi-phase program comprised of geophysical surveys and drilling, including FLTEM surveying over 10 separate target zones (completed); an initial 12-hole, 3,000m Phase 1 diamond core drilling program (in progress); and DHTEM surveying of drill holes.
Encouraging RC drilling results
At Andover, three holes testing two separate targets had intersected significant nickel and copper sulphide mineralisation at shallow depths, with the best being ADRC002: 7m @ 2.62% Ni & 0.65% Cu within 26m @ 1.03% Ni & 0.46% Cu from 43m; ADRC006: 2m @ 2.10% Ni & 0.44% Cu from 15m; and ADRC001: 4m @ 1.10% Ni & 0.80% Cu from 6m and 2m @ 1.77% Ni & 0.53% Cu from 62m.
Diamond drilling at Andover
AZS had recently commenced diamond drilling at Andover with three DD holes, ANDD0001, ANDD0002, and ANDD0003.
The Company’s first drill hole, ANDD0001, was designed to test for down-dip extensions of the sulphide mineralisation intersected in historical drill hole ADRC002: 7m @ 2.62% Ni & 0.65% Cu within 26m @ 1.03% Ni & 0.46% Cu from 43m and associated DHTEM conductors
On October 12, the company had reported excellent sulphide mineralised intersection in Azure’s first drill hole ANDD0001. Drill hole ANDD0001 had intersected 40.7m containing significant nickel and copper sulphide mineralisation within mafic-ultramafic intrusive rocks from a depth of 80.60m. 4.0m of massive nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation was also intersected at 94.5m depth.
Azure has now reported that more significant nickel and copper sulphide mineralisation has been observed in core from the Company’s second drill hole ANDD0002 on the Andover Project.
Further mineralisation uncovered from ANDD0002
AZS reported that the recently completed second drill hole, ANDD0002 has hit further nickel copper sulphide mineralisation.
The company said that ANDD0002 contains an overall mineralised interval of 14.50m commencing at 104.50m downhole. This includes a strongly mineralised 4.05m-wide zone of semi-massive to matrix nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation starting from 113.35m.
AZS said that this intersection correlates as the down-dip extension of the massive to semi-massive sulphide interval intersected in the first hole ANDD0001, extending the mineralised zone by an additional 40m.
The company said that the cutting and sampling of the mineralised interval in hole ANDD0002 has been completed and the samples are in transit to the laboratory in Perth for analysis.
Azure reported that the samples from hole ANDD0001 have been received at the laboratory and analysis is in progress. The company said that the results will be released as they become available.
AZS said that in the first two diamond drill holes at Andover, the Company’s geologists had observed significant quantities of nickel and copper sulphide mineralisation in the drill core, which has been verified by pXRF readings.
Azure noted that the mineralised intersections consist of a mix of massive, semi-massive, matrix, stringer, blebby and disseminated sulphides present as pentlandite (nickel sulphide), chalcopyrite (copper sulphide), and pyrrhotite (iron sulphide) hosted in gabbro and similar mafic rocks of the Andover mafic-ultramafic intrusive complex.
AZS said that further work would include the submission of selected drill core from ANDD0002 for analysis; additional diamond drilling to follow-up the sulphide intersections; and downhole EM surveying.
Azure’s Managing Director Tony Rovira said: “Andover continues to impress with our second drill hole intersecting strong nickel and copper sulphide mineralisation, extending the mineralised zone for at least an additional 40m down-dip to the northwest from the first hole ANDD0001.
The strongly mineralised intersections from our first two drill holes coincide with the interpreted locations of the conductor plates identified by earlier EM surveys, validating the geophysical modelling. This modelling indicates that the main conductor strengthens at depth and this target is currently being tested by hole ANDD0003.
To provide additional definition of along-strike and down-dip extensions to these conductor plates and refine future drill targeting, the EM survey crew has arrived back on site and down hole surveying has started in hole ANDD0002, with additional holes to be surveyed as they are completed.
The strong correlation of EM conductors with massive to semi-massive nickel and copper mineralisation augurs well for further exploration success as numerous EM conductors identified from surface surveying remain to be tested.”
