Black Canyon (ASX:BCA) is heading into this year’s RIU Explorers Conference to bring market attention to manganese, Managing Director Brendan Cummins tells Mining.com.au ahead of the 2026 program.
The company is presenting at 9.20am AWST on the closing day of the conference, which is held from 17-19 February at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges in Western Australia.
“Since manganese is a lesser-known commodity and largely forgotten, I will provide information on the fundamentals and value of manganese in the steel making supply chain,” Cummins tells this news service.
“Highlighting the success of the company in discovering and drilling out manganese resources and mineralisation with a more specific focus on Wandanya, I hope to demonstrate the significance of the Wandanya discovery in the Australian context which has only two manganese operations and limited high grade manganese resources available to be discovered.”
Trading Economics reports the price of manganese at ¥31.55 ($6.53) per million tonne unit, seeing a 7.86% increase for this year over year.
Black Canyon’s Wandanya Project is located on the eastern boundary of the Oakover Basin, located 80km south of the Woodie Woodie Magnesium Mine.
Cummins explains that Black Canyon is “well placed and in a strong financial position” with more than $10 million cash in the bank for more discovery and expansion drilling in 2026 to culminate with the resource estimate.
Black Canyon is targeting drilling to extend the 3km of known mineralisation by 1-2km to the north and south, as well as 200-500m of down dip to the east.
The company intends to use drilling and geological data to provide a maiden resource estimate for the project this year. This will be followed by a Scoping Study and feasibility studies for Wandanya.
“RIU offers wide exposure to brokers, investors and industry groups that allows direct access to multiple exploration and development companies under one roof,” Cummins tells Mining.com.au.
“It is also a great opportunity to reconnect with a lot of professional and personal contacts and see how they are progressing their companies and projects, the wins and challenges we face and what comes next.”
Cummins says Black Canyon hopes to increase its visibility within the investing community, while simultaneously increasing market interest in manganese with the company’s exploration updates.
Black Canyon is a manganese-focused developer and explorer focused on advancing its Western Australian assets.
The company is presenting at the RIU Explorers Conference in Fremantle, Western Australia being held from 17-19 February. Mining.com.au is an official media partner of this year’s event.
