Black Canyon (ASX:BCA) has identified ‘shallow, high-grade’ manganese and iron at the Wandanya Project in Western Australia.
First assay results from resource definition drilling have confirmed multiple manganese and iron intersections at the project, extending 300m north of the previous most northern drill cross-section.
Significant manganese results include 7m @ 34.8% manganese from 0m, including 4m @ 44.3% manganese from 2m; 8m @ 32.7% manganese from 0m, including 4m @ 36.1% manganese from 3m; and 8m @ 34.1% manganese from 0m, including 4m @ 41.8% manganese from 4m.
Iron intercepts include 10m @ 59.8% iron from 0m, including 5m @ 60.9% iron from 4m; 9m @ 58.5% iron from 2m, including 3m @ 62.5% iron from 6m; and 7m @ 57.1% iron from 4m, including 3m @ 62.6% iron from 6m.
Black Canyon says infill drilling has confirmed the continuity of ‘high-grade’ manganese and iron, remaining open to the north.
Down dip extension drilling for manganese to the east has also increased the previously reported 500m cross-strike widths up to 800m.
Drilling is ongoing at Wandanya to test for further upside potential along the full 9km long mineralised system.
Managing Director Brendan Cummins says drilling has continued to expand the discovery at Wandanya, which further increases the company’s confidence in the mineral system.
“Our outlook on the development potential for both iron and manganese remains highly positive and continues to strengthen with these drill results,” Cummins says.
The company has also announced intercepts from multiple holes exceeding 40% manganese, which “confirms the potential for low processing cost direct shipping ore (DSO).”
“We are achieving our drilling objectives to demonstrate grade and mineralisation continuity within the 3km long base case mineralised footprint across both manganese and iron,” Cummins says.
“The assay results and logged geology continue to show strong lateral continuity with consistent intersect thicknesses.
“Significant upside remains along the full 9km long mineralised system, and we look forward to further investigating these exploration targets with ongoing drill campaigns.”
