Electrical solutions provider Ampcontrol and technology company Siemens (FRA:SIE) have entered a collaboration agreement to work on technology solutions for battery energy storage and grid applications for the renewable energy market.
The agreement is an extension of the existing relationship between the two organisations, which have worked together on major energy and renewable projects.
Ampcontrol will become the exclusive Australian supplier for solutions for battery energy storage and grid applications, designed around Siemens’ SINAMICS S120 inverters.
The SINAMICS S120 inverters, which are a modular system, provide virtual synchronous generator functionalities for system strength and grid stability in the network. The inverters help increase digitalisation, grid resilience, and support Australia’s transition to net zero.
Virtual synchronous generators are a type of electronic converter that mimics the operation of a synchronous generator — a machine designed to convert mechanical power into AC electric power. It helps to provide grid-forming support, which is essential for maintaining a stable and reliable power system.
Ampcontrol Managing Director and CEO Rod Henderson says Siemens brings benchmark technology to the market and is committed to providing the “right-fit” solutions that match critical needs for industries.

Head of Siemens Digital Industries Division in Australia and New Zealand Darryl Kaufmann says the agreement comes at a critical time for the renewable energy sector and the energy transition.
“We have some of the best-in-class technology being used in every industry from mining and manufacturing to transportation and even support the research on the Great Barrier Reef,” Kaufmann says.
“The new agreement will pair our technology prowess with Ampcontrol’s expertise in designing specific solutions for the renewable energy sector.”
