American West intersects ‘thick’ visible copper at Storm Project

American West Metals (ASX:AW1) is continuing to accelerate its 2024 summer drilling program with 30 holes for 4,450m completed at its Storm Copper Project in Canada.

Drilling is focused on targeting resource upgrade and extensions at the Cyclone and Chinook deposits, and resource definition and exploration at the Lighting Ridge and Thunder prospects.

American West, which has a market capitalisation of $62.12 million, says the visual results from 16 of these drillholes have now been received, with all holes intersecting visual copper sulphides.

The company adds the mineralogy and presence of copper has been confirmed with portable x-ray fluorescence analysis.

Managing Director Dave O’Neill says drilling is gaining momentum and is similar to last year’s drilling program which showed the consistency of copper mineralisation.

“The drilling in and around the Cyclone deposit continues to highlight the continuity and growth potential of the resource with every drillhole to date intersecting thick intervals of visual copper sulphides,” he says.

“Drilling to the south-west of the deposit, and outside of the known copper resource, has intersected a thick interval of very strong copper sulphides. This is exactly what the resource geologists will want to see as we look to expand the resource.

“The initial resource definition drilling at Lightning Ridge has extended the envelope of the known copper mineralisation and confirmed the geometry of the high-grade copper zones. The drilling demonstrates that there is significant potential to convert the 2023 discoveries into resources which will help to quickly grow the copper endowment of Storm.”

Drilling is continuing in and around the Cyclone deposit, focused on converting existing inferred resources to the indicated category, and expanding the resource.

A reverse circulation drilling program is progressing within the Storm area, alongside diamond drilling.

Further, electromagnetic surveys will resume shortly to complete the deep searching surveys within the immediate Storm area, then move to the Tornado and Blizzard copper prospect areas.

The environmental monitoring and survey activities for the year are also underway.

American West Metals is an Australian clean energy mining company focused on discovering and developing major base metal mineral deposits in tier one jurisdictions of North America.
